Small, relational classes
Learning Differences Recognized
As a college preparatory school, the Oak Hill Academy academic program strives for excellence in the classroom. We also recognize the need for individual attention, so our academic program is structured to maximize student development and accountability. At OHA class sizes are intentionally small and focused. We know our students, we are aware of their needs, and our teachers heartily embrace their roles. An OHA faculty member encourages the development of study habits, generates thoughtful reflection, and provides academic leadership that is technologically relevant.
Our academic program focuses on the importance of the fundamental core courses while offering specialized learning opportunities in many subject areas: technology and publishing; physical education, health, and equestrian courses; English for Speakers of Other Languages, creative writing, and communications; and courses in art, music, and film. In relationship with Wytheville Community College, OHA also provides students with opportunities to earn college credit by completing specific courses in English, History, and higher-level Math. Our campus also serves as an SAT and ACT testing site.
More than 65% of our teaching faculty possess advanced degrees, and our students are fortunate to be taught by a mission-oriented, highly professional and seasoned team. The OHA English Academic Building is a modern facility with a Media Center, two science rooms with fully equipped laboratories, and an art room. OHA is fully accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS is recognized as the “gold standard” of state accrediting agencies). We are also members of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), the Small Boarding School Association (SBSA), and the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS). Oak Hill Academy is approved by the Virginia Council for Private Education.
