Curriculum
Oak Hill Academy is a college preparatory school, and our academic curriculum provides a comprehensive array of courses that satisfy college entrance requirements. It also prioritizes student growth across all stages of development.
We offer an extensive set of enriching electives for students to pursue topics of interest. Upon graduation, our well-rounded Oak Hill students are prepared to meet the opportunities and demands of post-secondary study.
Pedagogy and Values
Our goal at Oak Hill is to prepare graduates not only as qualified students, but also as well-equipped decision makers. Our graduates are ready to enter and contribute to society as independent young adults. Thus our pedagogy promotes self-advocacy, critical thinking, leadership, and collaboration.
Our core values and ethics also inform our curriculum and are embedded into our academic program. And with our collegial, tight-knit school community, Oak Hill offers a balanced and informed setting for adolescent academic and personal development.
A Supportive Community
We provide extensive support for our students throughout their time at Oak Hill. This is reflected in our manageable class sizes. Teachers get to know each one of their students, ensuring that every child is understood and cared for.
This foundational teacher-student relationship reflects our student-centered approach to educating the whole child. Our skilled faculty identify and build on the strength of each child, while also addressing areas of need and opportunities for remediation when necessary. Our administrative staff also aid in this process, serving as the primary source of support for our teaching faculty.
Coursework
We offer an extensive breadth of coursework at Oak Hill. From a student’s first year here, we take great care to build course schedules that ensure as exemplary a high school transcript as possible. Beginning in 8th grade, students have the opportunity to earn high school credit in nearly all courses. We also encourage students to stretch themselves and grow continuously.
We offer honors and advanced curricula in many subject areas. By the upper grades, students can choose from numerous Honors and Advanced Placement courses, including selections in Computer Science, Calculus, Physics, Art, and Environmental Science.
Students can also take dual enrollment courses on campus, with the potential to earn college credit. Through our partnership with the Virginia Community College System, qualified Oak Hill students have access to many more college-level courses in virtually all content areas.
Student Growth and Graduation
A credit to our dynamic, challenging curriculum, and even more so to their own dedication and hard work, our graduates leave The Hill and enter the global community as self-sufficient young adults, equipped to engage with the complexities of our world.
