Oak Hill Academy’s Coach Steve Smith reaches 1000-win milestone!

Oak Hill Academy’s legendary basketball coach Steve Smith reached the 1000-win mark Tuesday night at the Les Schwab Invitational Tournament in Portland, Oregon. Coach Smith’s Warriors beat West Linn High School (OR) in the semi-final match-up, 77-47. Coach Smith is in his 31st year as head coach of the Oak Hill Warriors Gold Team. Coach Smith tweeted that he was “So grateful to Oak Hill Academy, Dr. Groves, and all my players and assistant coaches who made tonight possible. What a night!”

After the game, tournament organizers put up a large screen and played a video of Coach Smith’s family and many of his former players congratulating him on his 1000th win.

In March of this year, Coach Smith was named the Naismith Boys High School Coach of the Year for the third time. He is also a 4-time winner of the USA Today High School Coach of the Year honor. Earlier this month, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced that Coach Smith is among those nominated for Hall of Fame induction in 2016. Congratulations, Coach Smith!
