Holidays on The Hill

Hot cocoa by the fireplace. Picking out the perfect tree and decorating it with your family. Watching your favorite Christmas movie. Every year, our annual traditions bring us comfort and joy during the holiday season. It’s no different here at Oak Hill Academy, where year after year, we celebrate the holiday season together in similar fashion.

Every year, we kick off the season with our annual Christmas tree decorating. Mr. Bunn sponsors this tradition, and a number of students join him in illuminating our campus tree.

Another favorite tradition is our annual Christmas dance. This year, we enjoyed a festive “Northern Lights” theme. Ms. Ashley Smith led the charge in decorating the cafeteria, and with the help of students, turned it into a winter wonderland. When the night of the dance arrived, students gathered with faculty and staff for a special Christmas dinner, followed by an evening of dancing.

Our holiday cheer doesn’t stop there, as we transformed the hallways of our academic building for the holidays as well. Teachers teamed up with their advisee groups to participate in a door decorating contest. Centered around our annual theme of #Connect, the groups brought plenty of fun and festive flair to their classrooms this Christmas season.

Speaking of Christmas, a faculty, staff, and student favorite is our beautiful Christmas village. Each year as the holiday approaches, Mrs. Linda Smith, our registrar, sets up the Christmas village in the academic building for all to see.

As the semester winds down and exams approach, students at Oak Hill still find time to celebrate the season. From attending advent services to participating in cookie decorating contests, students never miss out on special holiday traditions here on The Hill.

And before heading home for a well-earned break this year, a group of students joined together with Mrs. Joy Groves, our Director of Counseling, for Christmas caroling throughout campus, followed by hot chocolate and cookies at the home of Mr. Aaron Butt, our Associate Head of School.

Together, students, faculty and staff joined together to make the season merry and bright. Year after year, we all feel at home for the holidays at Oak Hill Academy.
