Parents’ Week 2021 goes virtual

Oak Hill Academy Parents’ Week 2021 Goes Virtual

Events like “Parents’ Weekend”—which offer a day or two of packed agendas for families who visit their child’s campus—are common for boarding schools like Oak Hill Academy and for most colleges and universities. Although the COVID constraints of this school year have prevented campus visitations, these same limitations led to a new phenomenon on our campus. Welcome to Oak Hill Academy Parents’ Week 2021: five days of virtual events, including teacher conferences, art shows, musical performances, program highlights, and showcases from our college partners.

Parents’ Week begins Monday, March 15, and there’s something for everyone on the schedule. On Monday, after our President’s welcome, Meredith College will showcase their institution. Meredith College, a historic women’s college in Raleigh, NC, is our newest college partner and will be of particular interest to our Lady Warriors and their families.

Tuesday brings an informative session from our College Lab Director and College Counseling Staff, explaining our student-centered approach to college placement, which has consistently led to success. Randolph College will follow up with a showcase of their new curriculum model and a description of their newest academic programs.

Wednesday, we’ll hear from an expert in the field of college financial aid, who will offer our families informed and strategic explanations to navigate the application and financial award process. Following this presentation, representatives of Emory and Henry College will showcase their nationally-acclaimed equestrian program. With nearly 50% of our Lady Warriors currently enrolled in our equestrian program, we’re sure this session will be of interest.

Thursday will be our monthly Warrior Family Book Club, where we’ll continue our deep dive into Dr. Daniel Siegel’s best-selling Brainstorm: The Power and Purpose of the Teenage Brain, discussing adolescent cognitive formation and what we need to know as parents of teens. Our second session will be a showcase of Bluefield College, who will introduce their new BSN program and discuss their connection to the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine. This will be a must-attend event for any student potentially interested in the healthcare field.

Friday will conclude our Parents’ Week as we tune in for our annual National Honor Society Induction Ceremony. Followed by a student panel, students will offer testimonies about their time at Oak Hill Academy, what it has meant to them, and the doors it has opened.

A detailed schedule of events can be found through the parent portal.
