Oak Hill Academy President Search
Oak Hill Academy is a small, co-ed, college prep boarding school located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of southwestern Virginia. The school was founded in 1878 and the OHA Board of Trustees is leading the search for the next President of the Academy. The retiring President served the school since 1998, assuming the headship in 2002.
The school is fully accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools and is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools. The picturesque campus is located on 240 rural acres, which includes 28 buildings. Campus highlights: an Equestrian Center, lake, amphitheater, Alumni Campus Store, and historic Turner Gymnasium. Recent construction includes three dormitories, two faculty residences, a meeting archives, and renovated tennis and basketball courts. The President’s Home is in the center of campus.
Oak Hill Academy is affiliated with the BGAV and on Sundays the student body attends a local church on the edge of campus, whose pastor serves as the Campus Minister for OHA. The school is well-known for its ability to provide community, structure, and academic support for a very diverse student body (who hail from various US states and countries), and OHA is renowned nationally for its boys’ basketball program (35+ alums have played in the NBA) and its equestrian program.
The board is seeking a candidate who can provide leadership for the school’s enrollment, maintain its distinctive programs and BGAV affiliation, and capitalize upon OHA’s 145-year legacy of providing a safe and secure community for 145 students on “The Hill.”
Interested people can contact Mr. Don Gibson, Chair of OHA Board of Trustees (Don.Gibson@glofiber.com). July 31, 2024 is the date of transition.
Resident Manager for Boys’ Dormitory and Soccer Coach
Oak Hill Academy is seeking a resident manager for the boys’ dormitory, who ideally can also serve as a soccer coach. This person is responsible for providing supervision of the dorm residents while they are not in school and on weekends, while maintaining a positive living and learning environment. The resident manager lives in an apartment in the dormitory, and provides structure and mentoring to a group of young men under their care. A college degree is preferred, but not required. The soccer season begins in March and goes through May, with a schedule of about 10-15 games against teams in the region. We are looking for someone with playing experience and a passion for coaching.
The Academy provides a cash salary, on-campus housing and meals (including for family), and benefits.
Oak Hill Academy inspires academic success, cultivates personal growth, and personifies a healthy community while fostering relationships among students, families, and our school. We are a coeducational Baptist-affiliated boarding school that provides a college preparatory education (Grades 8-12) in a small, structured, and nurturing environment.
