Campus Minister/Teacher

Campus Minister/Teacher

Oak Hill Academy—in partnership with Young’s Chapel Baptist Church—is seeking a person to serve as Campus Minister/Teacher for our boarding school community.  This person also serves as Pastor for the church, a small congregation that shares the campus in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia.

Covenant partners for 144 years, Oak Hill Academy and Young’s Chapel Baptist Church offer a non-traditional opportunity for a minister in a unique campus setting.  Within walking distance of the New River, the rural campus is located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of southwestern Virginia, one mile north of North Carolina, and 25 miles east of Tennessee.

Oak Hill Academy is a fully accredited, co-ed boarding school (Grades 8-12) with 120 students hailing from approximately 20 states and a dozen countries, all living on campus. With an intentional mission to assist students who are seeking a change in their school setting, OHA provides a college-prep curriculum, and is recognized nationally for its elite basketball program.

The Campus Minister teaches three academic courses (e.g., Biblical Studies, Christian Ethics, and World Religions) and assumes leadership for the spiritual emphasis of the school. Additional responsibilities include offering prayers and devotions for morning assembly, counseling students, and providing programs of spiritual support for a diverse student body.

As a Baptist-affiliated school, our students are required to attend worship at YCBC on most Sundays during the academic year. The Campus Minister reports directly to the President.

Young’s Chapel Baptist Church is a member of the Baptist General Association of Virginia. Aligned in spirit with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, the local congregation is small (+/- 75 members) and the Board of Deacons is supportive and appropriately involved. The church is actively engaged within the local community through its various ministry teams (building access ramps for the elderly, partnerships with OHA and the local elementary school, etc.). Blessed with a healthy endowment, the effectiveness of the YCBC ministry is not constrained by a lack of financial resources.

After 30 years of service to the school and the church, the current minister is retiring, effective May 31, 2023.

The responsibility for compensation and benefits is shared by Oak Hill Academy and Young’s Chapel Baptist Church. Health insurance, retirement, housing (parsonage, adjacent to the church), and meals in the dining hall are all included.
