Historic Turner Gymnasium and home of Steve Smith Court on the campus of Oak Hill Academy was filled with cheering students during a pep rally October 24th to mark the launch the 2019-20 Warrior Basketball Season.

Not your typical pep rally, the classes of students broke up into teams for some friendly “Warrior Spirit Competition” contests.

Throughout the year, students compete by grade level hoping to win the grand prize: a Spirit Trophy, PLUS the luxury of sleeping in instead of attending one Saturday School.

The first round of Spirit Competition was a hula hoop contest on October 2nd. Wendy H. of the senior class hula hooped for minutes on end, keeping her hoop up the longest and winning the competition, earning points for her team.

During the Pep Rally, teams competed in a hockey shot, a corn hole toss, a basketball shooting contest, a dunking contest and a “cheer off” led by the cheer team. The classes competed fiercely, but in true sportsmanship style, always supported each other.

At the end of this round of  point gathering for the Warrior Spirit Competition, the seniors currently are in first place with 15 points. They are followed by the sophomores who have 10 points, the juniors who have 9 points, and the combined team of 8th and 9th graders with 7 points.
