OHA Equestrian Team makes bright showing at first horse show of the year

by Journalism student AJ B. ’20

The Oak Hill Academy Equestrian Team participates in horse shows throughout the school year. The first show for the 2019-20 team took place in Ivanhoe, Virginia, on Saturday, September 28th. Competing in the Southwest Virginia Fall Fun Horse Show, our Riding Warriors all placed in each of their events. Senior Lauren O. competed in four events placing first in Equitation and Walk/Trot/Canter; and placing second in “Go As You Please” and Driving. Lauren remarked, “This was my first horse show in two years, and I haven’t been riding very much, so I was excited to attend the event and show the new girls the ropes of the horse show.”

The sophomore class is strongly represented on the team by Stephanie H., McKenzie K., and Haley V. Stephanie earned second place in the Equitation competition and fourth place in the Walk and Trot group. McKenzie took second and third place in her Sitting and Posting contests. In her OHA Equestrian debut, Haley placed fourth in both of her Sitting and Posting events. Haley said, “It was a fun event! I am looking forward to improving for the next show.”

OHA’s Equestrian Team is sponsored by Mr. Tim Henry and Mrs. Kim Manuel.
