Oak Hill Academy addresses coronavirus concerns

The following letter from Dr. Groves was forwarded to OHA parents today:

Hello from the President’s Office at Oak Hill Academy.

As the second semester settles into the healthy routine of boarding school life we are mindful that our small community is comprised of many students from around the world. Mouth of Wilson is certainly a safe and secure location, yet we are by no means an island.

Please know we are monitoring carefully the growing concerns associated with the coronavirus. As members of VAIS and NAIS I receive updates routinely that address travel restrictions and other necessary precautions a school should consider. Oak Hill Academy will follow the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and the US State Department.

Of course the health and safety of our students is our highest priority. Spring Break is still some five weeks away, so the guidelines are likely to change before March 6. Please know we are already meeting with our students to ensure that student travel is in accord with the recommendations of the CDC. Know also that we do not have any students on campus who have traveled from Wuhan City, China (where the coronavirus was first detected).

OHA Director of Student Affairs (Mr. Aaron Butt; butta@oak-hill.net) and our nursing staff (Betsy Anderson nurse@oak-hill.net) are coordinating our school’s response to matters associated with the coronavirus.

Thank you,

Michael D. Groves, Ph.D.
President
