Back to school with a personal touch at Oak Hill Academy

As we gear up for back to school, Oak Hill Academy is proud to be making preparations with a personal touch. From transportation, scheduling, finances, medical provisions and more, Oak Hill is working with individual families to ensure every student has exactly what they need.

Transportation:

We might not have direct flights to Mouth of Wilson, but we do have our head of transportation, Mrs. Regina Cooper. For the past several weeks and months, Mrs. Cooper has been working on travel plans for all of our students. She keeps track of each and every student’s travel schedule and accompanies the charter bus to pick up students upon their arrival, making sure everyone is accounted for as they make their way to The Hill.

Scheduling:

Once students are on campus and classes are underway, our director of counseling personally ensures they have everything they need. Mrs. Joy Groves checks every student’s schedule, making sure they are facing appropriate challenges and that they feel supported and inspired by their courses.

Mrs. Groves’s assistance is especially helpful for transfer students, as she is well-versed in a variety of school settings. She arranges transfer credits for all of our students, including those from diverse academic backgrounds such as an Internal Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum. Under the care and guidance of Mrs. Groves, new and returning students alike forge their path here at Oak Hill.

Finances:

We know that affordability is top of mind for families in a boarding school environment. Our Director of Financial Affairs, Mrs. Rhonda Bowen, is a key resource when figuring out tuition and financial aid. She has personal conversations with each family to find a payment option that works well for them, and she manages the financial aid process. Her dedicated time and attention help guarantee that our families and students have the peace of mind to focus on academics, growth, and overall wellness.

Medical:

“Who will care for my child if they get sick?” is a question we hear regularly and is an important consideration when looking at boarding school. We are pleased to have two nurses on staff, one of whom lives directly on campus. Nurse Anita and Nurse Celina are on campus throughout the year, monitoring student health regularly and remaining available day and night for medical issues. As needed, families can also meet with nurses at the start of the year to review any medication or care guidelines. On top of their medical savvy, our nurses make everyone feel better with their kindness and professionalism!

Truly, preparing for back-to-school is a family event, and the Oak Hill Academy community is pleased to connect with our families one by one to make this a successful experience.
